Squat For A Seat: Ride The Subway For Free In Moscow
While preparing for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, subway riders are getting in on the competition. Although the games are more than 3 months away, a unique ticket machine allows subways riders to compete for a special prize: a free ride!
In the Vystavochaya Station, there are special squat sensors attached to some of the ticket machines. Commuters can win a free ticket if they complete 30 squats in 2 minutes. If don’t complete the squats in time, they’ll have to pay the 30 rubles ($ 0.91 in US dollars) and take a walk of shame to their train. There isn’t yet an official total of how many people have participated in the promotion, but according to the Russian Olympic Committee, there has been a very enthusiastic response from the public.
Squats are a classic strength training exercise. They help the muscles in your core, thighs, hamstrings, hips, buttocks, and quads. It’s important to have the right stance when doing squats, so stand with for feet hip width a part. Next, make sure your back is start and begin to squat. During the exercise your knees shouldn’t pass your toes. One minute of squats can burn a 100 calories, but since these participants are only doing 30 squats in 2 minutes, they’re burning less.
